Introduction

The Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad is one of the oldest teacher training colleges of Sindh, established in 1956. Initially it was located at Mission road (which is now known as Baba-e-Urdu road) and was called the Government Teachers’ Training school. In 1958, the name was changed to “Government Teachers’ Training Institute.” It was shifted to Hussainabad in 1981 and the college was upgraded, and has been operating since then under the name of Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad.

In 2019, the Government of Sindh outsourced the management of this College to a non-profit organization, Durbeen, with the goal to make it the leading teacher training College of Pakistan. Durbeen is a non-profit organization with the long-term goal of establishing government schools that offer a high standard of education. To achieve this objective, Durbeen has undertaken the management of the Government Elementary College of Education, Hussainabad campus in Karachi, to develop professionally qualified, highly trained teachers for these government schools.
